On October 4, 2024, River City Early College (RCEC) Senior advisor Amber Davis held an informative Senior meeting at the Auditorium on the HCC Vicksburg Campus. The meeting focused on the Mississippi Supreme Court and civic engagement. The event featured notable speakers, including State Senators Jenifer Branning and Briggs Hopkins, and Vicksburg County Sheriff Martin Pace.

Seniors submitted a series of thoughtful questions, prompting discussions on various topics. Key inquiries included:

  • What are some of the biggest challenges you face?

  • What preparations did you undertake for your future career?

  • What are your plans for our state?

Each speaker provided detailed answers and constructive feedback, emphasizing the importance of civic engagement. The seniors were encouraged to participate in upcoming elections and to educate themselves about the candidates.

Many students reported feeling informed and empowered about the future of their state, recognizing the significant roles and decisions they will soon face as they transition into adulthood.

Senator Briggs Hopkins left the RCEC Seniors with one important message, “Get out and VOTE!”
