On Thursday, August 8th, River City Early College High School (RCEC) honored its outstanding scholars for the 2023-2024 school year at a special ceremony held at VHS. The event highlighted remarkable academic achievements, including perfect scores on the 9th grade Algebra I and 10th grade English II state tests. Impressively, a majority of RCEC's Class of 2026 and 2027 scored proficient or advanced on all four Mississippi State tests. Additionally, students' exemplary ACT scores were showcased.
As a Leader in Me Lighthouse School, RCEC also celebrated student leaders who have made significant contributions both within the school and in the community. Awards such as the Cougar Award, presented by staff, and the Compass Award, given by peers, recognized students who have demonstrated exceptional leadership. The school also acknowledged those who have shown outstanding dedication to community service.
The morning concluded with the presentation of the prestigious Tammy Burris-Smith Award, named in honor of founding principal Dr. Tammy Smith. This year's recipients, 12th grader Alysha Murrell and 11th grader Erion Wilson, were celebrated for exemplifying RCEC's core values of leadership, academic excellence, and strong character.
Congratulations to all our scholars for their hard work and dedication!
