VICKSBURG, Miss. – Vicksburg Warren School District (VWSD) students are taking their first steps toward careers in advanced manufacturing through the Step Up to Work program. Funded by Accelerate MS, the initiative provides Manufacturing Skills Basic training to students interested in pursuing opportunities within the manufacturing industry.
The training, which runs through the end of April, is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Hinds Community College-Vicksburg Campus. Students receive hands-on instruction in essential manufacturing skills such as welding, hydraulics, robotics, 3D printing, material handling, signaling, and the use of hand and power tools.
“This program is a significant opportunity for our students to develop workforce-ready skills in an industry that is in high demand,” said VWSD Superintendent Dr. Toriano Holloway. “By gaining certifications and hands-on experience, they are preparing for successful futures in advanced manufacturing.”
During the training, students will have the opportunity to earn valuable industry-recognized certifications, including Forklift Operation, OSHA 10, and CPR. These credentials will provide them with a competitive advantage as they enter the workforce or continue their education in manufacturing-related fields.
