On Day 4 of School Bus Safety Week, Vicksburg Warren School District (VWSD) is emphasizing the critical role that student behavior on the bus plays in maintaining a safe environment for everyone. Proper conduct on the bus ensures that the driver can focus on the road and that students arrive at their destinations safely.
"Our drivers do an incredible job ensuring safe transportation, but it's just as important that students follow the rules while on the bus," said Kimberly Taylor, VWSD Transportation Director. "Good behavior isn’t just about being respectful; it’s about avoiding distractions for the driver and preventing accidents."
Key Safety Rules for Students on the Bus:
Stay Seated: Remain seated, facing forward, with your seatbelt on (if available) for the entire ride.
Keep the Aisles Clear: Ensure that backpacks and other items are stored safely, keeping the aisles clear at all times.
Avoid Loud Noises: Refrain from yelling or making loud noises that could distract the driver.
Respect the Driver’s Instructions: Listen carefully to the bus driver’s directions, especially in emergency situations.
Teachers and bus drivers across VWSD are reinforcing these rules through reminders and safety drills, encouraging students to understand that their behavior affects not only their safety but also the safety of their peers. By practicing good habits on the bus, students help create a safer environment for everyone on board.
VWSD encourages parents to remind their children about the importance of safe and respectful behavior on the bus, as these practices help keep the focus on safety for everyone involved.
