From June 3-7, 2024, the Vicksburg-Warren Career and Technical Center hosted a Free Culinary Arts Camp for 7th-10th graders. This enriching experience aimed to spark interest in culinary arts among young students, offering them a week of hands-on learning and creative cooking.
The camp operated daily from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Thursday, and from 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM on Friday. Each day was filled with interactive sessions designed to build essential culinary skills and foster a love for cooking.
Throughout the week, the camp provided an enriching and immersive experience for aspiring young chefs. Under the expert guidance of professional chefs and culinary instructors, students delved into the art of cooking, learning essential skills and techniques. Each day, they engaged in hands-on activities, from mastering knife skills and understanding kitchen safety to exploring various cooking methods and experimenting with recipes.
The grand finale of the camp took place on Friday, where students had the opportunity to showcase their newfound culinary talents to their parents and guardians. This special event featured a delightful array of Italian cuisine, all prepared by the students themselves. The showcase highlighted the students' ability to execute a variety of Italian dishes, demonstrating their understanding of flavors, presentation, and the hard work they had put in throughout the week.
Parents and guardians were treated to a mouthwatering spread that included classic Italian dishes such as handmade pasta, rich and savory sauces, and decadent desserts. The event not only allowed the students to display their skills but also provided a platform for them to gain confidence and receive positive feedback from their loved ones.
Plans are already underway for next year's camp, with hopes of expanding the program to accommodate even more budding young chefs. The Vicksburg-Warren Career and Technical Center continues to inspire and nurture the next generation of culinary talent, ensuring that the love for cooking and good food will thrive in the Vicksburg community for years to come.
